The pews of Saint Luke's Methodist Church

Outreach at St. Luke's

St. Luke's is involved in its community in a number of ways, both through direct services and support of other programs and groups. Here are some of the ways that St. Luke's reaches out:

St. Luke's Shelter

St. Luke's Shelter, an integrated auxiliary of the church, provides transitional housing for six homeless men. Open every night of the year, the shelter works with its partners to provide case management and other skills to its residents. Church members provide a dinner meal once a month. Learn more at the Shelter's website.

Shalom Place

Opening in the summer of 2006, Shalom Place will house small groups visiting the DC area for mission work. Located on the second floor of the church, Shalom Place features renovated areas for sleeping and eating along with separate bathroom facilities. Learn more about Shalom Place.

Jazz in the Garden at St. Luke's

Each summer, St. Luke's presents a series of free jazz concerts on Thursday evenings in the garden adjacent to the church. All shows start at 6:30 p.m. and last for two hours with a brief intermission. Bring a picnic basket, a blanket or lawn chair and your friends to enjoy the show! Learn more about the 2006 lineup.

Grate Patrol

St. Luke's participates in the Salvation Army's Grate Patrol program, which delivers meals to the homeless every evening. The Sunday before the first Tuesday of each month, volunteers from St. Luke's make 150 meals for delivery on the first Tuesday of the month. Church members also ride along to help deliver the meals in downtown Washington. Learn more about the Grate Patrol from the Salvation Army.
